Do you ever have one of those days where the external inputs seem to run amuck and you can’t seem to stay focused on anything? Some days are more challenging than others and Friday was one of those days! Although I work in a corporate environment, I’m quite fortunate to have the luxury of listening to music of my choice. Two of my favorite groups are 33 Miles and Pocket Full of Rocks – their music is upbeat and always uplifting.
Back to the story…while co-workers were enjoying the countdown to the weekend, I was working on a tight project deadline and trying to make sense of entirely too much data…the light chatter and laughter became increasingly distracting to the point I couldn’t concentrate on the task at hand. What to do? What to do? I pulled out the iPod, scrolled to 33 Miles, plugged in the earphones, and cranked up the volume! Before I knew it, the rest of the office faded into the background…I was forging ahead on the project and the end was in sight…then, I sensed my co-workers (including my boss) looking at me and giggling…what was up with that??? They were trying to figure out what was going on – even though I was working on a less than pleasant task, I was smiling, my head was bobbing to the beat, and obviously enjoying the moment.Apparently, I had found my “ Happy Place ” and it was evident to those around me!Such a blessing – a little bit of praise and worship music was exactly what I needed to help me shift my focus back into sync – God first and the rest is a piece of cake!
